Fishing the scenic St. Croix River, Mississippi River, Twin Cities Metro Area, and Lake Mille Lacs
Josh is a multi-species guide, and is happy to run trips for walleye, pike & bass as well.
Did you miss the June 2014 issue of Field & Stream?
Field & Stream asked Josh to keep a journal documenting the ups and downs of the 2013 guiding season. This article reflects the editors' favorite excerpts.
LATEST NEWS: (July 15, 2014) We're excited that the St. Croix river has finally dropped below 683 feet, which means we can once again cruise around in the Skeeter MX2025, enjoying some spectacular scenery while we cast a line for any of the many fish species that call the river home.
Also noteworthy is the lift on the night ban on Lake Mille Lacs, which goes into effect July 21. I've had lots of inquiries already about running guide trips there. Yes, I love guiding on Mille Lacs! I try to string trips together throughout the summer, so please send me an email if you're interested in heading north for a fishing adventure, and we'll figure out how we can make it happen.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. If I'm out on the water (very likely this time of year), my wife Laura will be happy to get back to you with whatever information you need.
Josh is a United States Coast Guard (USCG) Licensed Captain and has guided professionally for nearly 20 years. While his first love is musky fishing (he caught the current Minnesota State Record Tiger Musky in 1999), he also enjoys guiding for walleye, bass and northern pike.
If you’ve seen Josh on "The Hunt For Big Fish" starring Larry Dahlberg, you’ve had a glimpse of the enthusiasm and impressive results that Josh is known for (like landing several giant muskies on Larry's show)! He is also a published writer and engaging seminar speaker.
In 2004 Josh purchased Blue Ribbon Bait & Tackle in Oakdale, Minnesota and shaped it into a "home away from home" for all anglers. If he’s not on the water, he’s probably at the store, helping customers find the most effective tackle for their next fishing trip. Otherwise, he’s likely spending time with his daughters, Anabelle and Emma, and his wife, Laura.
Feel free to browse the website to get to know more About Josh. To preview where you’re likely to fish on your guide trip, check out the Home Waters tab. If you’d like to purchase some great tackle, including specialty items that can’t be found anywhere else, click Shop for Blue Ribbon Bait & Tackle’s on-line selection. Maybe you’ve got that nagging question on your mind, “Did this guy really start guiding when he was 16?” If so, I’d recommend you pour yourself some coffee and browse his photo Gallery. You’ll see how Josh grew up...on the water, with fish on the line!
Josh's passion for life and fishing will be obvious the moment you meet him, and he’s looking forward to meeting you!
